Your purchase will include a 21 page copy of "The Miracle of Ice from Heat"; which explains how gas refrigerators work.

If you need to service or repair your 1933 - 1957 Servel gas refrigerator; then you’ve found the best Service Manual.
This Service Manual is also applicable to the 1958 - early 1960's Whirlpool gas refrigerators.  I've been working with Servel and Whirlpool gas refrigerators since 1979 and have serviced hundreds of them.  You’ll be purchasing this 150+ page Service Manual from a very knowledgeable person who can help you with questions, parts, or problems with your gas refrigerator.  The Service Manual has 5 sections: ''Installation'' [proper air circulation, leveling, connection to gas, lighting the burner, etc]; ''Controls'', for LP gas [propane setup, burners, burner servicing and installation, orifices and turbulators, determining proper orifice size for high altitudes, thermostats, maximum and minimum flame settings, problem diagnosis, etc]; ''Data'' [cabinet and cooling unit model numbers and years, cooling unit interchangeability, flue baffles, high altitude ratings, etc]; ''Cabinet maintenance'' [door gasket, handles and latches, adjustments, freezer doors, trim, etc]; and ''Cooling Unit maintenance'' [flue cleaning, flue repair, remove and replace cooling unit, etc].  This Service Manual contains too much information to list everything in this auction.  It has lots of pictures/illustrations, and a good troubleshooting chart.  Since most Servel and Whirlpool gas refrigerators are operated on propane nowadays; I've eliminated the "Controls" and "Tables" sections that deals with natural gas only [approx. 116 pages], to save on printing cost....and confusion.  There has never been a "Tables" section for LP gas [propane]; since it only applies to natural gas.  **Update: I had the "Controls" and "Tables" sections for natural gas professionally printed also, and it's now available in the same booklet style and color as this auction shows; for an additional $7.....or it can be substituted for the "Controls" section for LP Gas instead**  The Servel 58 page "Controls" section for Liquified Petroleum gas [propane] was always a separate publication from the main Servel Service Manual, and it's included with your purchase.  There are too many pages in the Service Manual to contain them all in one booklet; so the "Controls" section for LP gas is a separate booklet.  The Service Manual is professionally printed as 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" booklets with 2-sided pages.  This is the very SAME info that has been used by Servel dealers, Gas companies, and Service people for many decades.  You'll have your gas refrigerator working great by following the information it contains....and you could easily recover the cost of the Service Manual by working on someone else’s gas refrigerator too.  When you use my Service Manual; you’ll have the knowledge to do it.  The cost of my Service Manual is probably less than 1/2 hour of time involved that a Serviceperson would charge for working on your refrigerator.  Fix it yourself and also save the effort of having to deliver your refrigerator to a repair facility, and then going back to pick it up later.

I'm also including 4 extra pages [8 1/2" x 10 1/2"] of my personal information; which contains many helpful details that are guaranteed to make your refrigerator repair easier.  These extra pages help to "fill in the gaps" of things that might be confusing, or aren't even covered in the original factory Service Manual.  You'll need to become familiar with the Service Manual to understand what I've written.  It also has information about using a water manometer, and will guide you in adjusting the maximum and minimum flame settings correctly; whether using a water manometer or not....and LOTS more.

The 1956/1957 refrigerators were the last ones manufactured by Servel Inc.  Whirlpool bought out Servel Inc. and produced gas refrigerators under the Whirlpool name until the early 1960's only.  Servel Inc. invented the icemaker for refrigerators and installed them in their 1953 - 1957 refrigerators.  Whirlpool wanted the patent for the icemaker and purchased Servel Inc. to acquire it.

1977 is the last version of the factory Servel Service Manual.  It was still available until the early 1990's; but Whirlpool had already ceased the publication of it.  The actual contents of this latest 1977 factory Servel Service Manual is dated 1956, and any later publishing date from 1956-on is only due to putting a different cover on the same 1956 factory Servel Service Manual.  The cover on my Service Manual is my own design, and no other cover [or the overall contents] will be like it.  This auction is for a copy from a new 1977 version.   I've made some improvements, changes, and additions to a factory original Service Manual, and to the "Controls" section for LP gas; to make it a better Service Manual.  This also makes my version unique; when compared to a factory original Service Manual and "Controls" section for LP gas.  There is no better Service Manual than the one from the original Servel factory....with my improvements to it.   Any other Servel Service/Repair Manual which has less pages; has a lack of information....and any Servel Service Manual dated prior to 1956 will be missing information about all of the models manufactured by Servel Inc.

The model number of your Servel can be found on a small black and silver metal tag in the burner compartment; usually mounted vertically to the face of the cabinet.  On certain models; the black and silver metal tag is located on the bottom crossmember of the cabinet, facing up, and most likely hidden under dust/dirt.  One of the pictures in this listing shows the black and silver metal tags.  There's also another black and silver metal tag that's attached directly to the refrigerator's cooling unit.  This particular tag can't always be used to identify the exact model number; since other years and models of similar sized Servels will sometimes share the same cooling unit. The model number tag is always attached to the cabinet with 2 rivets, and the cooling unit tag is almost always attached with 2 screws.
