Paul Reed Smith frequently refers to the guitar as “the violin of our time.” It’s easy to see what he means in terms of culture and popularity, but the comparison pretty much ends once you get to the craftsmanship department. Your average six string isn’t quite the same labor of love as a violin that was around when Mozart was new. That’s where this guitar comes in. Drawing inspiration both from the tonewoods used on classic violins and the craftsmanship that went into them, Paul Reed Smith has released the Private Stock Violin II guitar. There’s a good chance it’s one of the finest electric guitars on the planet. First of all, I’ve never seen a maple top with markings like this. If we could control the way maple grows to make the perfect guitar tops, we’d come up with something like this. The neck is equally resplendent, while the dark fretboard provides some contrast. The sound is exceptionally clear and spirited. Acoustically, this guitar is quite loud for a solidbody electric, and plugged in, the tone has a way of glowing out of your amp. It’s hard to imagine a guitar that plays better than this – it will spoil you rotten. If the guitar is the violin of our time, this guitar makes the case that Paul Reed Smith is the Stradivari of our time.
Special Features
This Private Stock creation is outfitted with some of the most gorgeous wood I’ve seen on anything – guitar, furniture, chess set, super villain paperweight. The top is a serious contender for “best cut of maple ever.” It looks like it was meant for a guitar. The fretboard is a gorgeous cut of cocobolo, and the gold mother of pearl bird inlays provide a subtle contrast. The Pattern neck is also an unmatched cut of flame maple, and it plays more smoothly than a kitten’s bottom. For pickups, this guitar is decked out with some of PRS’s 58/15 pickups. These are are some take-no-prisoners humbuckers that provide an awesome modern growl and drive amps and pedals really well. Check out the binding around the body, neck and headstock. It’s PRS’s new violin-inspired “Strad” purfling. The rest of the guitar has been crafted with PRS’s usual stratospheric build quality.

If you wish to return an item for a refund, we will ask that you cover the cost of return shipping. Please contact us for the return shipping address as well
as return authorization number. Please allow 7-10 days from the receiving date for returns to be processed.

- All returns are subject to a Tech Check upon arrival. Any instrument that is returned with damage, wear and tear (including pick marks), missing or
replaced parts, missing protective or packing materials are not eligible for a full refund.
