Today we are offering a wonderful, unusual pair of antique brass or bronze true dragon or griffin candleabra. Each candlestick holds two candles -- which makes them all the more special as most candlesticks of this type hold only one candle. These are based on an old medieval design originating in England or Scotland and according to our research these mystical animals are commonly found on family crests. The creature that forms the base is a combination of a duck, a creature with fur, dragon-like small wings, two webbed feet and legs (instead of 4), and a tail ending in a spade foot. The arms which support the candle cups and bobeches, feature grotesque faces with the arms of the candlesticks coming out of their mouths; the arms are molded in a feather or scale pattern. The candlecups and bobeches are also ornate. Unmarked. These candleabra measure approximately 9" in height and 10" across at the top; the creature is approximately 7" long and 5" in height. They are heavy, weighing 8 lbs. before packing. A wonderful, rare, antique pair of candle holders, perfect for a mantle or dining table.
