It is virtually NEW. I moved to a Nikon D810 which does not use the DX format

This was the first and still the most popular short focal length zoom in the DX format, optimized for Nikon digital cameras. It was added to Nikon's line in 2003 and quickly became the standard walking-around lens for journalists. It is super sharp on DX sensor cameras and the fast f/2.8 aperture, relatively modest size and wide to normal range of focal lengths make it a made it ideal for most situations that didn't require a telephoto or super-wide lens.
It is important to mention that it is a G series lens, which means there is no aperture ring on the lens. F-stop must be controlled by means of a command dial on the camera body, so this lens has limited compatibility with older Nikon film camera bodies and on FX sensor cameras, (D600, D700, D800, D3, & D4 models). Most FX bodies will go into an automatic crop mode that only uses the DX-sized center portion of the sensor. All Nikon digital SLR cameras will work with this lens, but full frame (FX) cameras will crop the frame. It would definitely vignette in the corners if you put it on a film camera.
