Stunning Jumbo Size (37 mm) 1960’s Jaeger le Coultre Memovox Automatic Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

Founded in 1833, Jaeger Le Coultre have long been acknowledged as one of the premier watchmakers in terms of their extremely high quality movements, their effortlessly elegant design and innovation. They made the iconic Reverso in the 1930’s and followed this up with the wrist alarm Powermatic and the Memovox… The Memovox, especially the oversize version (37 mm excluding the 2 JLC signed crowns), is one of if not the most desireable Jaegers on the market.

This oversize Memovox case is in stunning condition with only the most minor signs of wear – it also has the original Jaeger signed setting crowns – one for winding/time setting and one to set the alarm. The original 2 part slightly off-white outer and inner steel pearlescent dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is just magnificent. It has the applied steel with black centre) hour batons with the Jaeger legend at the ’12’ position along with the original steel with matching black centre) hands. Jaeger movements are amongst the highest quality in the world and this Jaeger signed ‘Bumper’ automatic is in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this delicious piece we’ve added a new, very high quality, black Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches ‘London’ alligator skin strap with a steel Hirsch buckle.

My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a three month written guarantee on the movement, which is long enough for you to assess the working order.

The Case

This oversize Memovox case is in stunning condition with only the most minor signs of wear – it also has the original Jaeger signed setting crowns – one for winding/time setting and one to set the alarm. The case measures 37 mm across, excluding the 2 ‘JL’ signed crowns and 44 mm long including the lugs. The outside case number is ‘1119084’ and the inside case carries the model reference of ‘855’ and is signed ‘Acier Inoxyable’ and ‘Le Coultre & Co Swiss’.

The Dial

The original 2 part slightly off-white outer and inner steel pearlescent dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is just magnificent. It has the applied steel with black centre) hour batons with the Jaeger legend at the ’12’ position along with the original steel with matching black centre) hands. The dial is signed ‘Jaeger Le Coultre’, ‘Automatic’ and ‘T Swiss Made T’.

The Movement

Jaeger movements are amongst the highest quality in the world and this Jaeger signed ‘Bumper’ automatic is in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The movement is signed ‘Jaeger le Coultre’, ‘Swiss’ and ‘Fab Suisse’. The movement is known as a ‘Bumper’ as the rotor rocks from side to side rather than turning 360 degrees. The alarms ‘pin’ is fixed to the inside caseback and will rattle slightly when the alarm isn’t charged (wound). This is normal and it stops when the alarm is charged.

The Strap

To complete this delicious piece we’ve added a new, very high quality, black Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches ‘London’ alligator skin strap with a steel Hirsch buckle.
