Here for your consideration is an exquisite, Moorcroft, "Who Goes There" 7" baluster vase, designed by Anji Davenport in 2014. This beautiful vase, designed by Anji Davenport is a wonderfully picturesque work of ceramic art. The vase depicts a cold winters night with a cat casually observing a passing family of foxes. A numbered edition vase, this one being number 214.

Moorcroft designers are often asked for details of their current ideas on design. There is nothing particularly regular about the requests, which are more spontaneous than organised. Anji Davenport's particular response to a request made in early spring of 1999 was a design totally different from anything ever produced by Moorcroft in it's 100 year history. Against a bleak winter landscape covered with fine snow, a couple of foxes could be seen slinking across the fields. Originally going to be titled 'Fox' it was changed to Woodside Farm where Anji grew up as a child. Since then, Woodside Farm has become one of the most iconic/famous patterns ever to be produced by Moorcroft. This vase "Who Goes There" shows a lot of similarities to Woodside Farm, the story continuing and evolving !!

Summer or Winter, night or day, if you sit Moorcroft designer, Anji Davenport, in the corner of a field, something akin to pure magic will emerge from her sketch book. This time, Anji’s fields are covered in snow: a winter sun spreads streaks of cold blue, amber and yellow across a distant village and rolling white hills. The air is cold, and the scream of a distant vixen shatters the silence. The designer’s black cat cares nothing for the foxes, the chill of the sky or the white snow. Everything she sees is crystal clear. A wooden post and rail garden fence protects her sanctuary and her retreat. A fox is prowling past with more of its family slinking quietly across the snow in the distance. To the black cat, the fox is a mere object of curiosity, not fear. This is nature in the wild, drawn by an artist who is in control of her design and confident in her subject matter. For those familiar with landscapes in winter when warmth has gone into hiding and humans sit by their fires in heated homes, "Who Goes There" is an atmospheric picture, a scene which many of us will have studied at some time or another in our lives !!
