Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Bassman head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This exceptionally clean and 100% original vintage Fender head has transitional "drip edge, black line" cosmetics, with aluminum trim around the grillcloth, and the thin vertical black lines on the faceplate indicative of a Blackface AB165 circuit under the hood! This is the earliest Bassman we've ever seen with a Silverface faceplate, while the circuit remains entirely Blackface, and all part codes date to mid 1967.
Complete with the original RCA tube set including a pair of 6L6GC power tubes, this amp has a clear, powerful Fender tone that's ideal for use with guitar or bass. The original RCAs in the preamp allow for optimal sweetness, clarity, and headroom too. The perfect platform for players who use a variety of pedals, the Bassman delivers a robust, clean, and dynamic tone, and after around 5 on the Volume dial the amp starts to push into smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive.
The circuit is 100% original and untouched, with stock Schumacher transformers that date between the 26th and 30th weeks of 1967. The original CTS pots are present as well (dating back to the 44th week of '66), and the amp retains all of its stock capacitors in both the preamp and power amp. Of particular note, this amp has all of the blue molded Ajax caps in the preamp, and the sweet, musical tone of these caps is integral to the "Blackface" sound. The chassis itself is very, very clean, with a stunning silverface faceplate, turquoise lettering, and original black witch hat knobs. The original tube chart is also present inside the head cabinet, with crisp corners, unfaded paper, and only the faintest wear on the top edge.
The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with turquoise stripe are intact and in great shape, and the stock aluminum trim is present as well. The stock corners, handle caps, and chrome piggyback clip bars are present as well and all very clean. Cosmetically, there is very little wear to report, with a couple tiny scratches near the input jacks and a light scuff or two on the enclosure, but as the photos show, this is an extremely clean, 100% original and well cared for vintage Fender Bassman head!
