A very rare chance to acquire a top quality set of four, large, top quality, reproduction Fine Art prints by renowned 19th century artist and illustrator Samuel Howitt (1756 – 1822) who specialised in animal, hunting, horseracing scenes. In 1807 he produced a series of 20 plates to illustrate the book British Field Sports and these prints became enormously popular at the time and have remained so in the 200 years since. In 1955 a facsimile edition of Howitt’s coloured plates printed on thick parchment sheets was published in a full sized portfolio which is where these print originated. The four lively and detailed scenes on offer depict Stag Hunting I and II, plus Hare Hunting 1st and 2nd. Once framed and glazed to match the new owner’s decor this evocative set of country scenes from two centuries ago would look superb hanging in a period or contemporary property and be particularly suitable for display in an ancient inn, period restaurant or country house hotel.

The prints are in very good condition with light wear from occasional handling but virtually no signs of fading. Please view all photos as they form a major part of the item description. Each sheet measures approx. 55cm (21.5”) x 45cm (17.5”), with the print itself being 41.5cm x 31.5cm.
