This is a long victorian French jet/black glass mourning necklace or muff/guard chain. The beads are hand faceted, with mainly small beads (5 beads per inch) and 6 larger beads, 4 long and 2 slightly squat round beads. The long beads are approx 1 inch long and the round ones are just under 1/2 and inch diameter. The beads are hand knotted every two beads and the necklace appears to be on the original black cord or silk

It is approx 56 & 1/2 inches long and fastens with a dog clip. The dog clip looks as if it has been japanned originally but much of this has worn off.

It is in excellent original condition, with just the odd nibble here and there as you would expect with a necklace of this age (around 120 years old) but no major chips or cracks, and the spring on the dog clip fastened is still strong and secure.

***I am trying out 'private listings' this week as an experiment, so bidders'/buyers' identities stay private - if you have any opinion about this please, let me know!***

-

Please examine the photos as they form an important part of the description.

I will be adding more vintage and antique jewellery items throughout the week.

I do combine shipping.

-

Please feel free to ask any questions if I have missed anything in the description that may be important to you.

-

My vintage and antique jewellery has been collected over decades and all of my vintage jewellery is true vintage - I do not collect or sell modern reproductions. I occasionally sell newer pre-owned Scottish designer silver items and other designer costume jewellery items.

Please go by the weight and measurements given and by the photo of the items beside coins. The close up photos are to show detail and condition and are never intended to exaggerate size or value.

Please see all photos & use the zoom tool to examine the condition and quality.

I will be adding more vintage and antique jewellery every few days so please see my other items. I combine additional items for no extra postage.

My items don't come with any boxes shown in the photos (unless stated in the description) but I do pack carefully - see my feedback from buyers! :)

Please feel free to contact me for more information if I have omitted any details that may be important to you. :)

See below for t&c's and combined shipping discount.

Start prices are low and there is no reserve, so please have a look at my other items :)

I am really sorry that I can't sell any jewellery to Australia just now - Royal Mail have told me (after a tracked and insured item that I sent to Australia went missing) that they won't compensate me as jewellery is prohibited by au post (although it is not restricted by the Australian government who happen to be the sole owners of AU Post!). I am looking into it and hope to resolve this soon!

I will be selling more of my collection of beautiful old jewellery over the next few months. I have collected a lot of vintage and antique jewellery over the years and enjoy selecting and photographing interesting pieces to list on eBay from time to time. My taste is quite eclectic but I do like good design and well made pieces, I love natural materials like coral, amber and whitby jet, agate and other semi-precious stones. I also collect vintage Norwegian enamel, Scottish silver jewellery and anything Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco, particularly Czech and Venetian art glass necklaces. I love beads! I also like quirky and unusual pieces so please check back from time to time :)

Nearly all of my items are used/vintage/pre-loved and I try to take good clear photos and mention any significant wear - If you are new to buying vintage jewellery please don't expect items to be as new or 'mint' unless stated. Photos are enlarged so that you can inspect the items before bidding - please use the weights and measurements given.  I try to remember to use 5p and 1euro or US dime coins in at least one of the photos to show relative scale. A 5p coin is almost exactly the same size as a US dime.

If you would like me to combine anything else that I am selling this week, please let me know and wait for your combined invoice before paying. All items paid immediately will be posted the next working day, or paid by Sunday night will be posted on the Monday. Please pay within 3 days of auction end.

Shipping Discount

Full price for the first (or heaviest) item and free shipping for any additional items bought from me this week and paid together on the same invoice. Please wait for a combined invoice - please don't pay for individual items if you are hoping to bid on more of my items today.

UK buyers - 'special delivery' option should be selected on your invoice if the combined value of your items = £50 or more - your package will be tracked and insured and will require a signature on receipt.

I always keep postal receipts with the tracking info on file.

Overseas buyers

eBay items sent overseas have to be tracked to comply with PayPal buyer and seller protection - I offer to combine additional items free - Overseas buyers please be aware that you are responsible for any import restrictions, duties and/or other charges that may be made in your country.

I fill in customs forms honestly - marked as 'other' and an 'eBay item' with the basic description of the items i.e. "vintage beads".

I am aware that it is expensive to pay £9-10 international shipping for an item selling for less than the shipping cost, for this reason I am happy to combine shipping on additional jewellery items free.  Tracking info is added to your order details as soon as I have it.

Contact me before bidding if you want to discuss cheaper untracked shipping and are happy to accept the risk of 'airmail small packets' for 1/2 the cost of tracked shipping - only available on single items selling for £30 or less, and not on combined shipping. (I always keep proof of posting until I know the item has been received).

I like to get my items off to the post office on the Monday following the Sunday auctions so if you pay right away you should have your item on the Tuesday or Wednesday (UK) and by the following week for overseas -  subject to delays in transit but always tracked with Royal Mail "International signed for" or "Airsure" unless otherwise agreed beforehand.

I pack my items with care!

Please look at my feedback and bid with confidence

In the extremely unlikely event that you do have a problem with your purchase, please contact me before leaving feedback. I only accept returns if there is an error in the listing and/or the item is not as described and photographed.

Thanks for looking and good luck if you decide to bid!

PayPal only please - if you are in the UK and want to pay by cheque or postal order please contact me before bidding
