With the Nook, you’ll never have to worry about running out of great beach books while on vacation. If you’re a student, you can say goodbye to backaches caused by carting around heavy textbooks in your backpack. The Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch weighs in at just 7.5 ounces, which is less than a paperback book. At 5 inches by 5 inches by 7 inches, this Nook Simple Touch device is extremely thin. It slips easily into a purse, a backpack, or a jacket pocket, and you can upload up to 1,000 books, magazines, and newspapers into it. Its long-lasting battery allows you to read for weeks at a time on a single charge. If you want to increase the size of your portable library, simply add more memory. This Nook model comes with a 2GB hard drive, but you can add up to 32GB. Simply use the microSD slot on the right side of the unit to install your extra memory. Barnes & Noble is the world’s largest bookstore, so you’ll have access to more than two million titles. Most of these titles are available for less than physical copies, and thousands are actually free. Your Nook also enables you to borrow eBooks from your local public library. This e-reader relies on e-ink Pearl technology, which provides a contrast range that’s 50% greater than its Nook predecessors. You can bookmark pages, highlight passages you may want to remember, and look up unfamiliar words as well. The Nook Touch reader uses an Android operating system and has built-in support for Wi-Fi. Some Nook owners use this Wi-Fi capability to customize their devices with apps and games. If you want to connect to an external Wi-Fi network, a browser page will pop up, allowing you to sign on. The Nook Simple Touch reader is an attractive matte black, and it’s ergonomically designed to balance easily in one hand. Turn it on and off using the power button, which is located on the top of the back of the unit. Toward the bottom of the back is the USB port that’s used to charge the unit. The USB port can also be used to transfer content from your computer. The buttons on either side of the “N” insignia at the bottom of the Nook’s front are for turning pages.
