Bosch
invented the Lambda oxygen sensor in 1976. Bosch is now
the world's number one name for original equipment and aftermarket
requirements - with a total of more than 500 million Lambda
oxygen sensors produced to date.
> Lower Fuel
Consumption!
> Enhanced Engine
Performance!
> Lower Emissions
Levels!
Lambda sensors are subject to extreme
conditions and are now a critical part on any new vehicle.
A lambda sensor in perfect condition is a requirement for
a reliably functioning engine and thus for ensuring low
fuel consumption, low pollutant emissions and the correct
emission values. Bosch lambda sensors are unbeatable thanks
to their long service life, excellent operation and optimum
engine compatibility.
Only if the
lambda sensor is working perfectly will your engine will
be able to operate to its full performance capacity
and reach the emission limits!
What is a
BOSCH
Lambda Oxygen Sensor and what does it do?
|
A
lambda sensor (also known as an exhaust gas
oxygen sensor/probe) is an electronic device
that measures the proportion of un-burnt oxygen
(O2) in the exhaust gases.
It was invented
by Robert Bosch GmbH in 1976 and is the key
sensor in determining the air-to-fuel ratio
on modern engines.
Lambda sensors produce
a voltage signal that recognises the amount
of un-burnt oxygen in the exhaust gases. It
sends this signal to the engine management system
which uses this signal together with information
supplied from other sources to determine the
correct air-to-fuel ratio.
The air-to-fuel
ratio is extremely important to a combustion
engine and directly effects the amount of engine
power, fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
With the Lambda
sensor playing such an important role, it is
therefore essential that the sensor is working
perfectly all the time to maintain the correct
level of engine performance, fuel consumption
and exhaust emissions.

Advantages of fitting a brand new
BOSCH
Lambda Oxygen Sensor
|
Regular checking and replacement
of your lambda sensor is vital for:
-
Optimised fuel
consumption, engine output, driving properties
and lower emission levels.
-
Up to 15% lower
fuel consumption in comparison to a significantly
aged or faulty lambda sensor.
-
Enhanced engine
performance and power
-
Preventing any
possible damage to the expensive
catalytic converter
-
Passing new
stringent emissions levels at MOT time.

Replacement Intervals and symptoms
of a failing lambda sensor:
|
Regularly checking
and replacing the lambda sensor
is well worth the effort as their
service life can be drastically
reduced by contamination and certain
atmospheric conditions.
The lambda sensor
must work properly in order to comply
with emission limits and reduce
fuel consumption. This means it
should be checked every 20,000 miles
and be replaced when necessary or
when the recommended replacement
interval has been reached.
Bosch recommend
that lambda sensors are replaced
at the following service intervals:
-
Unheated:
Every 30,000 miles
-
Heated 1st
generation: Every 60,000 miles
-
Heated 2nd
generation: Every 100,000 miles
-
Planar sensors:
Every 100,000 miles
|
Symptoms of a
failing lambda sensor includes:
-
Increased
tailpipe (exhaust) emissions
-
Increased
fuel consumption
-
Hesitation
on acceleration
-
Stalling
-
Rough idling
-
Engine management
light on dash
Another
common cause of premature failure
of lambda probes is contamination
of fuel with silicones (used in
some sealings and greases) or silicates
(used as corrosion inhibitors in
some antifreezes). In this case,
the deposits on the sensor are coloured
between shiny white and grainy light
grey.
Leaks
of oil into the engine may cover
the probe tip with an oily black
deposit, with associated loss of
response. An overly rich mixture
causes build-up of black powdery
deposit on the probe. This may be
caused by failure of the probe itself,
or by a problem elsewhere in the
fuel rationing system.

What does F1 F2 F3 F4,
etc stand for in the
advert titles?
Important Customer Information
about our fitment codes
F1, F2, F3, etc
We
are only allowed to
use a maximum of 55
characters in the eBay
title so you can imagine
how difficult it can
be to fit all the fitting
information into that
limited space. On certain
vehicle applications
we have to use our own
fitment codes to distinguish
between differences
in the raw Bosch fitting
data. F1 simply stands
for Fitment 1, F2 is
Fitment 2 and so on.
Some
applications may appear
be identical apart from
just an engine code,
power output or chassis
number. The fitment
codes are also used
when certain models
have more than 1 lambda
sensor fitted which
is very common on high
capacity engines where
up to 4 different lambda
sensors could be fitted.
So for example, F1 could
be an advert for the
lambda sensor used for
cylinders 1-3, and F2
could be the one used
to for cylinders 4-6.
If
the advert title has
an F number at the end
of it, then this simply
means there is more
than one advert listed
for that exact application.
If your model has an
F number in the title
then please check all
adverts before purchase
as there will be differences
in the fitting data
and there maybe different
part numbers available
for that exact model.

Not the correct
BOSCH
sensor for your car?
|
Don't worry!
We have the entire range of Bosch
oxygen lambda sensors listed in
our eBay shop. We have an advert
for every single make and model
in the Bosch catalogue so we are
sure there is one to fit your car.
To find all the lambda sensors listed
for your model please follow these
simple steps:
1) Go to our eBay
shop at
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/powersparks
2) Choose the lambda sensor shop
category and then in our shop search
bar (top of the left menu) simply
type in your make and model and
engine size.
3) This search will show all available
fitments for that model. You can
narrow the search down if required
by being more specific with your
search terms.
4) Browse through the adverts to
match up a lambda sensor to your
exact vehicle, and then check the
advert fitting guide to make sure
that it's the correct one for your
vehicle. Don't forget to watch out
for the fitting notes as detailed
above.
Each one of our adverts has the
full fitting information from Bosch
to ensure you are buying the right
part for your model.
Please ensure your vehicle details
exactly matches the information
on the fitting guide. We receive
100's of emails a week asking about
fitment, but at the end of the day
we don't know the full specification
of your vehicle so its up to the
customer to find out their exact
vehicle details and then match them
up to the advert fitting guide.
It's important that you check crucial
fitting details such as year, engine
code, chassis code and any fitting
notes.
