This Rare Yellowstone Park Set of 97 Colored Post Cards, Printed in German,y in the Original Faux Reptile Post Card Holder Album titled "Yelloestone Park" on the cover which has faded, by Frank Jay Haynes, is quite a find. These postcards are from the period when he sent his postcards to Germany for coloring because of the quality of the work. Closer to World War I, because of the issues with Germany and America, he quit sending the postcards to Germany and had them colored in America. The result of which, considered by most, the quality in coloring was diminished. This collection comes from an estate where the families grandparents took a 5,081 round trip train trip from Bloomington, Virginia back to Franklin, Virginia, from August 29th to September 25, 1909 to attend the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (World's Fair) in Seattle, Washington in 1909 with a visit to Yellowstone Park. Included with the Yellowstone Park Postcards is the complete hand written and dated itinerary of the trip; on what R.R. Lines they took, cities and towns they stopped in to change trains dating from the beginning to the end of trip. Also is a Official Souvenir Postcard from the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition titled "A Night Scene on the Trail" which still has the glitter attached and never had been post marked. This card is VG in condition showing handling wear, please refer to photographs. The Yellowstone Post Cards are Divided Back Post Cards, never written on or post marked, in excellent to near mint condition with crisp colors and images and no staining or spots and little if any on all post cards, paper fading. The cards have rarely seen the light. All post cards have nice crisp edges with just a couple having a minimal corner bend and a few having a slight indentation on the corners from being in the book for over 100 years. The cards have been stored in the faux reptile post card album since new. The album shows wear and handling use from viewing the post cards. The album is loose in it's binding and the faux reptile paper has wear and damage. The pages in the album are in pretty good shape with the first couple of pages detached but complete. Some of the post card page corner holders are broken but intact, with a couple pages having one corner holder missing. Some of these postcards are rare in it's self, if not downright hard to even find. All Post Cards are from F. Jay Haynes early 1900's period. All Post Cards "Printed in Germany". All Post Cards say "Yellowstone Park" except #182 - Jackson Lake and Teton Mountains.
Post Card #'s 129 & 199 not in the series.
In addition, one Post Card from the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition "A Night Scene on the Trail."
