What is Tabla?
Tabla is a pair of drums that seems to have come to India in 13th century. It is used in Hindustani classical as well as light music.
A tabla set comprises two drums with animal skin to cover heads. The two drums are bass drum and treble drum. Bass, also called bayan is the bigger metal drum, played with the left hand. Treble, also called dayan is the smaller wooden drum, is placed on the right. Both use goatskin drumheads and camel leather straps which help to arrange and re-arrange the pitch.
