Museum Condition 1950’s Oversize Solid 18ct Rose Gold Rolex ‘Chronometer’ Standard Gents Vintage Watch

The Overview

Rolex made some of the most beautiful dress watches in the world during the 1950’s and 1960’s. They have become some of the most collectable and sought after watches in our range. Many were 30 mm’s across the case, known as mid-size, and 33 mm’s known as full size. Just a few are known as oversize which is 34 mm’s across the case excluding the winding crown. 99% of the movements are manual wind with 17 jewels and often signed ‘Precision’ and the case material is usually 9ct gold or a mixture of gold and steel. Just a few were rated to ‘chronometer’ standard and solid 18ct gold and even fewer are the highly sought after rose gold…

This solid 18ct rose gold oversize Rolex also has the chronometer movement making it just about the most desireable Precision currently on the market. The solid 18ct rose gold case is in outstanding condition with only the most minimal signs of wear – the original rose gold ‘Thimble’ crown, deliciously rounded case back and ‘Thunderbird’ bezel are classically late art-deco. The original Rolex signed ivory/cream dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is simply beautiful. The super high grade Rolex signed ‘chronometer’ standard manual wind movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this amazing piece we’ve use a new, high quality (£195) black Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches alligator strap with gold plated (yellow) Hirsch buckle.

Watches of this quality and in this condition are extremely rare and highly sought after – if history is any judge they will only increase in value.

As mentioned, it has just been serviced by my watchmaker and, in view of the high-grade Swiss movement, I will include a 3 month guarantee on the movement which is long enough for you to assess the working order.

The Case

The solid 18ct rose gold case is in outstanding condition with only the most minimal signs of wear – the original rose gold ‘Thimble’ crown, deliciously rounded case back and ‘Thunderbird’ bezel are classically late art-deco. The case measures 34 mm’s across excluding the uber-rare rose gold plated thimble winding crown and 42 mm’s long including the lugs. The inside case is signed ‘Rolex Geneva Swiss’ and the case numbers are ‘463 4448’. It also has the appropriate hallmarks for solid 18ct gold.

The Dial

The original Rolex signed ivory/cream dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standard and is simply beautiful. The applied rose gold spearhead hour batons with the original rose gold dauphine hands provide the softest contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the solid 18ct rose gold Thunderbird bezel. The dial is signed ‘Rolex’, ‘Officially Certified Chronometer’ and ‘Swiss Made’.

The Movement

The super high grade Rolex signed ‘chronometer’ standard movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker – this is the highest grade of manual wind movement that Rolex made at this time. The movement is signed ‘Rolex Chronometer’, ‘Timed at 6 Positions’, ‘Swiss Made’ and ‘Patented Superbalance’.

The Strap

To complete this amazing piece we’ve use a new, high quality (£195) black Hirsch and Sonning Vintage Watches alligator strap with gold plated (yellow) Hirsch buckle.
