This auction is for a single metre of 2.5 sq. mm pure copper shielded mains cable, cut from the reel with no plugs included (unless you buy plugs as well of course). The cable itself has an eye-catching pattern of steel braiding, running its entire length. The standard cable is 1m long, but we can cut this cable to absolutely any length that you want. For example, if you order 5 items then you will receive one piece of cable 5m long. We can also terminate one (or both) ends with any type of mains plug or power connector, silver-soldered on for a perfect electrical connection. Outer diameter is nominally 9.8mm.

CABLE SPECIFICATIONS:

 

The cable has three pure copper cores, with a massive 2.5 square millimetres cross-sectional area per core – regular power cables use cores of only 0.75 or 1.0 square millimetres in area. Basically, this means that our cable has a lower resistance and better current-carrying characteristics under load than all of the thinner cables.

 

Our cables are fully shielded by a beautiful protective braid of steel filaments around the inner three wires. This braid acts as an electrical shield, intercepting and removing any harmful radio-frequency interference (RFI) produced by all electrical equipment – especially your hi-fi components themselves! This is why a relatively short length of shielding has such a positive effect on the sound of your system, as the power cables pass right by the transformers and power regulation circuitry in all of your components on your equipment rack. This has the effect of supplying the source equipment with an extremely pure and noise-free mains supply, which is an essential part of improving the sound of your setup.

CABLE INSTALLATION:

 

The cable has three inner cores – one is green and yellow for Earth, as usual. The other two are black, one of them is marked at 2cm intervals with a white ‘1’ printed on its side and the other is marked with a ‘2’. We use ‘1’ as live and ‘2’ as neutral, and we suggest you do the same. The outer shielding should be connected to Earth at the mains plug end ONLY – the audio equipment end of the cable should have its braid left unconnected. The outer transparent sheath can be trimmed back at the desired point using sidecutters, the excess removed and pulled back slightly by around 5mm, the braid untwisted and trimmed, and then the outer sheath pushed back over to leave a neatly-finished cable with bare ends sticking out. The inner grey insulation can then be stripped off to reveal the three inner cores (green/yellow and the two black wires) as with a normal mains cable. Just ask if you have any more questions!
