How to get wrinkles out of faux leather?

Faux leather is an amazing fabric, it is both very cheap and very beautiful as well, it can be used for many purposes such as clothing and furniture, but it is after all a product of petroleum, a type of plastic, this means that when folded and left for a very long period of time, it will get wrinkles.

There aren’t many ways to get these wrinkles out, however the few ways you are going to learn about in this post are 100% effective and very easy to apply!

Here are the things you need:

  • A blow dryer or clothing dryer
  • iron
  • an old towel

The first step you need to do is heat your faux leather for a minute.

But be careful, faux leather and high temperatures don’t mix!

You have to remember that faux leather is plastic after all, and as so, it is very vulnerable to heat.

This is why you have to expose your faux leather materials only for a short period of time to heat, if they are exposed for more than one minute they are going to be damaged!

Now, take your fabric from the dryer and hang it for two minutes, or until it has cooled down.

It is best to use and wood hanger, avoid wire hangers as they are going to leave a wrinkles on your clothes.

After this, expose your faux leather item to heat for another 20 seconds.

This is going to relax your fabric and recover back its original shape through hanging.

Don’t heat your items for more than 30 seconds!

The second step is to hang your faux leather fabric for a minimum of 2 hours.

After this, If you still notice some wrinkles in your faux leather, use this technique:

Put your faux leather item on an ironing board, use a towel to cover it and then iron the towel using lowest temperature.

This is going to prevent your faux leather item from being exposed to direct heat, which is going to damage it.

Avoid using steam while ironing; it is going to damage faux leather permanently!

Don’t iron for an extended period of time, just briefly, and let your faux leather item cool down.

After you are done ironing, let your item cool down for the night, this can be done by hanging it near an open door, the air which is going to circulate there will relax the fabric and the gravity is going to take care of getting rid of the wrinkles.

This is how you get wrinkles out of faux leather items.

The thing you have to be careful about is to not overheat your items because they are going to simply get damaged, and one last thing, don’t use a new towel, use an old one which you don’t use often, this is so as not to damage any new towel while ironing
