Antique Georgian Diamond Ring....

This is a wonderful example of a Georgian "transition" ring. Until the turn of the century (1800's) most period rings had closed backs with the gold covering the rear of gemstones, some were "foiled" in between the stone and the back to try and reflect the light and many used coloured "foil" to "enhance" the colour.

This fabulous large ring is from that transitional period where jewellers began making open back settings to allow the light to pass through the stone and sparkle magnificently in the candle lit Georgian homes.

The large Diamonds are all beatifully Rose / Dutch cut having the typical sliced flat mirror rears of these antique stones. The colour of the stones is an off white /pale grey and I have provided some very close up pictures to show the stones. The largest two stones (top and bottom) measure approx 5mm across - depth is difficult to asses so determining the carat weight is difficult, but I would estimate that there are between 2 and 3 Carats of diamonds in this ring.

This would have been seen as a very dramatic ring in it's day, large and showey - displaying wealth and importance. The Navette or Marquise shape is 3cm (just short of 1 &1/4") long x 1.11cm (7/16th's").
This stunning handmade ring has an 18ct Gold (tested) shank with diamond chips in the shoulders.

Comes with the Antique leather box shown.

Condition: There is a minor chip on the girdle of one of the smaller stones (first picture - second row down, right stone at 10/11 o clock- there is a space at 12 o clock this is not a chip) . The ring has been re-sized at some point in it's life.
