However, the thickness of this cell wall also makes Pyrenoidosa slightly more difficult to digest.

Research & More Information

Chlorella is a tiny, single-celled blue-green freshwater algae that has survived on this planet, relatively unchanged, for over two billion years1Chlorella gets its name from chlorophyll, the green plant pigment responsible for photosynthesis. Chlorella contains larger quantities of chlorophyll within its tiny cells, than any other plant known. Alfalfa was long thought to be the plant kingdom’s richest source of chlorophyll, but Chlorella has 20-30 times the amount found in alfalfa.1,2 Chlorella’s high chlorophyll content accounts for its super efficiency in utilizing the sun’s energy to grow, and also for many of its health benefits to humans.

Chlorella is a complete food, rich in protein, vitamins and minerals. It has twice the protein found in an equivalent weight of beef, plus it contains all 8 of the essential amino acids. 100 grams of Chlorella contains over 51,000 IU of Vitamin A. It also has B-1, B-2, B-6, B-12, C, E, pantothenic acid, folic acid, biotin, PABA, niacin, riboflavin, and inositol. Chlorella is also rich in minerals, especially iron and zinc.

Of particular interest is Chlorella’s ability to bind with heavy metal neurotoxins4,5 like cadmium6, lead, and mercury7, and support the body in detoxifying the liver and bloodstream by eliminating these substances. Chlorella can also supplement the body’s ability to rid itself of other toxins such as dioxinand arsenic9.

Chlorella is able to assist our immune system in a number of ways, many of which are still not completely understood10, 19. Antibiotic properties of Chlorella resist a wide range of bacteria11, including the leading cause of food-borne illness, Listeria12Chlorella encourages the growth of beneficial bacteria in the digestive system without attacking the useful ones and supports healthy function of the colon and bowel13. It also shows promise in helping the body resist viral infections such as herpes14.

As a powerful antioxidant, Chlorella is valuable throughout our body in reducing damage to cells through oxidation that contributes to the growth of cancers15,16,19 ,and also to diseases involving cognitive decline such as age-dependant dementia17. Anti-inflammatory properties of Chlorella have shown potential benefit for conditions such as fibromyalgia, hypertension, and ulcerative colitis18. Within the tiny single cell of Chlorella, numerous bioactive compounds can be found, such as omega-3 fatty acids, carotenoids, polysaccharides, and peptides, each capable of supporting our immune system in their own unique way16,19.

BioPure Healing Products is proud to offer Chlorella that is 100% Certified Organic. The algae are grown in man-made fresh water ponds, ensuring the Chlorella is pure and free of any contaminants or pollutants. The ponds are exposed to natural sunlight, which encourages high chlorophyll content. The water the Chlorella is grown in is also super-oxygenated which allows the algae to pull in extra oxygen molecules. These are highly reactive and after ingested can readily bind with toxins and facilitate their elimination from our bodies. Because the purity and safety of our products are of the utmost importance to us, we changed our Chlorella source away from Japan subsequent to the March 2011 Tohoku earthquake, and still have each individual batch of our product routinely tested and certified free of radiation.

In its natural form, Chlorella algae have a stiff outer cell wall. Before marketing our Chlorella supplements, a unique pressure system is used to gently crack open the hard outer cell walls, while keeping the inner contents and organelles relatively intact and undamaged. This delivers to you the maximum nutritional and health benefits possible.

Chlorella is available in liquid, powder, or solid form, in capsules and tablets. Two different species, C. vulgaris and C. pyreneidosa are also available, each with unique properties.
