Reproduction Antique Bisque & Composition Art Doll by Mel Alpert – 1981

SFBJ #252 Pouty Toddler with Paris Pouty type face holding her broken Jumeau doll signed on the back of her neck Mel Alpert.

Knowing very little about reproduction dolls I will describe what I see and what I have been told.Bisque porcelain head Composition body with legs jointed at the hips and knees. Strung arms and fixed hands made of, (I have been told?) paperclay. She stands approximately 10 ½” tall.  Her outfit is lovely and I believe made of silk. Complete with slip and pantaloons trimmed in silk lace and ribbon. I did not try to remove any clothing as it fits like a glove. I did open the back to check as best I could.  Her wig is hand-woven and the detailing impressive.  Beautiful hand blown glass eyes.  Her broken doll is only attached by doll house putty and will be sent wrapped separately as will the “broken pieces” and her hat.

Mel Alpert made every single piece of these dolls. Everything is to scale and all molds were created by him.  Modern day fabrics were dyed by him to create the right texture and look of a real antique.

His creations were very detailed and time consuming. They are museum quality.  There was an article about the artist and his work in the August 1989 issue of Dolls Magazine.

Most people have never heard of Mel Alpert, but those who have know how special Uncle Mel, as he was known, and  his works are.

To the best of my abilities, I can find no flaws or faults. She is in perfect condition from a smoke and pet free home..
