1962 Ludwig Auditorium 14" x 6.5" Snare Drum

A rare opportunity to purchase an original 1962 Ludwig snare drum.  It is quite rare to see the Auditorium model and being 1962 it is pre the Ringo Starr Ludwig boom where quality control was stronger and makes for a better made drum.  

It has original painted white interior with date stamp reading "May 10 1962" also complete with period correct red felt 'baseball' bat muffler.  It has nickel hardware that gives in combo with the natural wood finish a classy understated look.  The only things non-original on the drum are the heads, the snare and the top hoop is a replacement. Everything else is as it should be.  Plus if you were really keen you could quite easily source an original nickel hoop from the USA easily enough if it bothered you.  Comes complete with a nice padded soft drum case the heads are a near new coated remo ambassador on the top and remo ambassador snare on the bottom.  Heads fit the drum well and it is not out of round, strainer and butt plate are original Ludwig.  It has 8 lugs and is in great condition overall, please see pics for this.

Has a lovely darker mellow full sound, a nice thwack but still has a good crisp articulate snare response and cut to it. Has a lot more body than similar sized metal snares I would say and not clumsy sounding like some big snares it is quite mellow and rounded in tone.  Has a classiness you don't tend to get so much in a more modern drum.  I'm sure it will find a good new home..
