**Madeley Porcelain History**

Thomas M Randall founded the Madeley factory (Madeley Porcelain) at Park Lane, Madeley Shropshire in 1825. It was operating until 1840, when he moved his production to Broad street, Shelton, Staffordshire. The body of the porcelain was of soft paste, closely resembling the best old Sevres, creamy in tone and very translucent. Tableware and decorative accessories were the principal products. The decoration was in the typical French 18th Century manner. The ware was not often marked. This was the last of the soft-paste porcelain made in England and was the nearest approach to old Sevres ever made. Painters employed to decorate the wares at Madeley included Philip Ballard (1800-1890) who painted landscapes after Boucher.

I believe in the early years of the factory Thomas Randall and Richard Robins imported Sevres blanks, these were purchased from the Sevres factory but at a cost of almost a finished plate! This was not a cheap practice.
