Make sure to check out all of my auctions after you look at this one.  I'm listing another eclectic assortment of antiques and collectibles, and I suspect there will be something of interest to just about everyone.

Here's a beautiful, all original Edison Home cylinder phonograph with an original Edison witch's hat horn.  Known also as the "long case A," this was the first Home Phonograph marketed after the run of  early "suitcase" style Homes had ended.

The phonograph is a tested "player."  It works great, sounds great, and it's ready to enjoy as soon as it arrives.

As you can see in the photographs, the phonograph is in excellent condition throughout. Original Japanned finish on the bedplate is still deep black and glossy, with minimal signs of wear.  The original gold decorations are still prominent, with minimal wear, and the original Edison signature is still bold. The phonograph comes with its original shaver, and the thumbscrew and spring are both working properly.

The motor is in excellent condition, and the machine will play several cylinders when its fully wound.  The governor assembly is also working properly, and the pitch doesn't waver as a cylinder plays through.  All of the gearing beneath the bedplate is clean, and the phonograph plays with minimal gear noise.

The cabinet is beautiful (early fumed oak), and the original cabinet decal is in excellent condition. There is no chipping on the handle, no damaged veneer, and no corners are coming unglued. The phonograph was set-up at one point to be used with a large, rear-mounted horn, and the screws for "lollipop" crane support brackets are present on the back of the cabinet.  The baseboard has an age-related separation that runs parallel to the grain, but this has no bearing on the structural integrity of the cabinet, which is still excellent.

The original crank is in good condition, with normal paint wear, but no chips in the iron, no damage to the wood knob.

The 14" Edison horn is original, with only a few minor dings and marks and none of the damage you typically find on original cone horns (when you can find them.)  If you think it's no big deal to find an original cone horn that looks like this, I suggest you try to track one down yourself.

I'll include with the phonograph an early Gold Moulded Edison cylinder, and if you get tired of listening to it, there are plenty of other titles available on ebay and elsewhere. The phonograph plays Columbia cylinders too, I should note, along with those made by Oxford, Lakeside, etc. In fact, any 2-minute cylinder can be played on this machine -- wax or celluloid. If you're not already familiar with how to operate an early cylinder phonograph, don't worry. I'll provide you with simple, easy to understand set-up instructions, so you'll be able to use it within minutes after you unpack it and put it together.

Overall, an exceptionally nice cylinder phonograph that's in need of nothing other than a few feet of shelf space.
