This is the Simon & Halbig Jutta doll number 1349 as marked on the back of her porcelain bisque head. She has glass eyes, little enamel teeth, pierced ears with pearl earrings and a jointed composition body. She measures 25" tall. The back of her right shoulder has the S&H red mark and the back of her head is impressed "1340 Jutta S H 12".
My friend received this as a gift in 1935, handed down from her Great-Aunt who had played with this as a child. So, this would date to maybe 1910? My friend named her Jeanette after her favorite singer, Jeanette Mac Donald. Also she made or purchased the clothing for the doll. The lace petticoat is made from her aunt's wedding dress. None of the clothing is original.
For 2 generations in the same family, Jeanette was played with and loved. She has some cracks and worn places on her composition body. Her right hand is missing 2 fingers and her feet are very worn as pictured. Her head and face appear to be in very good condition with only a light scratch in the paint on her right eyebrow. I am not an expert on dolls of any age. I'm not sure if the blond hair is original or what it is made of, the layered wig is attached. I believe some of the joints are a bit loose. Please view my photographs for more description.
