For sale is my 1963 Split Window Corvette, perhaps the most iconic American sports car of all time. This Split Window is in excellent, restored condition and won best in class at the 2012 Concours d'Elegance, Intermountain event (American Sports Car - A Class). This is a very high profile event where only the finest cars are accepted to compete and the judging is extremely thorough. It has also won numerous other local shows and certainly draws a lot of attention.
The VIN is 30837S111312, indicating a production date in late March 1963. It has the original, numbers matching 327/300 hp engine, engine pad number 3111312 F03IISD. The odometer reads 98,631. It has a 4-speed manual transmission, which was rebuilt including a new clutch in 2009. The rebuild was performed by Steve Luvisi in Huntington Beach (renowned Corvette mechanic in Southern California), who performed other maintenance on this car when I still lived in CA. It has had less than 1,000 miles since rebuild. When the car was restored in 2000, the engine was rebuilt, along with the front and rear suspension and a host of other components, all with correct parts. It has newer, correct exhaust. The engine bay has been meticulously restored with all correct and/or original components including original air cleaner housing and cover, upper and lower ignition shielding, correct dated alternator (1100628-37A date code 3B26, Feb 26, 1963), original Carter AFB carb (3460S date code BB3 - Feb. '63), correct hoses and clamps, correct decals, markings, etc. – even the correct overspray on the rams horns exhaust manifold ends. This car has no power brakes or power steering – indicative of an honest car.
The original hubcaps are in excellent, unrestored condition, which is rare. The rear split window panels and side glass are original (date codes V1 & LC), except for the passenger side vent glass which has been replaced. When restored in 2000, the original Silver Blue was stripped down to gel coat and repainted Riverside Red, and the dark blue vinyl interior was changed to black. The original clock works. The original Wonderbar radio works (auto search function as well), but is not tied to speaker currently. Rather, the speaker is tied to a concealed stereo system in the glove box, but is easily switched back to the original connection. The original jack and jack sticker are in place.
This is a no-hit/no accident car. All the body panels are original, with the bonding strips still intact. The paint is very nice and gets compliments wherever it is shown. Though in extremely nice condition, it is not perfect – there are some rock chips up front and other nicks which have been touched up and polished, but overall the paint and the rest of the car is remarkable. It is of much nicer quality than a driver, but I still carefully drive it to local cruise nights and shows. The car originally had a Powerglide, but it has been switched to the current 4 speed. Despite the rebuild in '09 by Luvisi, the transmission still has slight whine in lower gears (typical of these old Corvettes), but the car drives great – it is very road worthy with a tight front end and driveline. It has been pampered and driven very easily for as long as I’ve owned it, including never seeing a drop of rain - the undercarriage is extremely clean. It has all original and/or correct parts except for electric choke conversion (for easier starting) and the newer radial Firestone tires (white-walls with smooth side walls to get as close to an original look as possible), vs. the original bias ply tires.
It is simply a gorgeous 63 Split Window that needs to be seen to be appreciated. Physical inspections of the car are encouraged. Feel free to contact me (Dan) at 385.223.0557.
