The latest addition to the Oxford Aviation range is a 1:72 scale replica of the only Dornier Do 335 Pfeil (Arrow) still in existence. The original aircraft is on display in America at the Udva Hazy Centre, Smithsonian Museum, Washington DC. The WWII aircraft was a heavy fighter built by the Dornier company with superlative power supplied by two in-line engines in the front area of the fuselage rather than one under each wing. Although the Do 335 took its maiden flight in October 1943, it was not introduced until 1944, although the Luftwaffe were desperate to get the design into operational use. Unfortunately, due to engine delivery delays, very few were delivered before the end of the war in 1945 and records would indicate that only 37 made it off the production line and there is one sole survivor in the US National Air and Space Museum, the template for our 1:72 scale replica. Painted in the green and brown camouflage scheme with blue grey underside, the markings on the aircraft VG-PH are in black and white. The propeller blades and spinner are black green, while the gun barrels have been finished in black. The aircraft was built as a single seater but a later design saw Dornier using it as a two-seater training aircraft.
