Please come in and take a short trip back in time, to the 1940s, when baby artists such as Dorothy Hope Smith, Bessie Pease Gutmann and Maude Tousey Fangel created illustrations of precious little ones, with cherubic faces, rosy cheeks, sweet little chubby rolls of baby fat, topped off with baby curls and jelly rolls atop their heads.  This is CRYSTAL, by Donna Rubert, 21 inches and 5 pounds of cuddles and huggles!  The listing will include some pictures of my inspirations from that era; bet you won't be able to not let a soft *sigh* slip from your lips.

Crystal is wearing a vintage inspired bonnet, and a handmade top with coordinated pantaloons.  She has a true vintage crocheted bib and an adorable pair of felt crib shoes with original ribbon ties, that have lovely felt embellishments.  Her vintage look includes a faux pacifier to be used as a prop only, a church doll made from a true vintage handkerchief, a cloth diaper and vintage look diaper pins.

Crystal's FULL arms and 3/4 LEGS attach to a jointed body that is a very close color match to her skin tone.  You can see how unobtrusive the body is when the diaper shirt is open, revealing the fabric's color. I used an armature from the head to the neck/upper torso;  Crystal's head will not fall into her chest, she will sag or become floppy.  She was filled with premium non-clumping polyfill, rigid and soft pellets, fine glass granules, and a small packet of non-corrosive BBs that are securely closed and ensconced in fiber fill.  You will not feel them or hear them, but you will enjoy the sitting stability she has with her center of gravity.

What a fabulous find, a three piece lovingly made vintage gown with matching slip and bib.  The slip secures with tiny little buttons, however the dress is missing snaps and the bib is missing ties.  I could not bring myself to pierce the fabric with a needle and sew on snaps or ribbons.  I feel that vintage clothing is a true piece of Americana and I chose to use it in the condition I received it, lest even minutely altering its history and condition.  All three pieces have intricate needle work of embroidery and lace tatting.
To complete the look, she is wearing a beautiful and pristine condition light green velvet jacket that doubles as a diaper shirt; the jacket has a flawless satin lining and the matching velvet bonnet also is satin lined, with satin ribbon ties.

Crystal was painted with a custom mix of GHSP, and the finish protected with heat set matte varnish, ensuring years and years of maintaining her original condition, when displayed as art and not played with as a toy.  A general guideline will be included with her arrival.  Crystal has been rooted with exceptional mohair, processed by Cathy King, of Angelic Lullabies Nursery.  Crystal’s mohair has a slight wave to it, that you can style with your fingertips after it has been dampened and ever so gently combed.  I used a ½” curling iron to add the soft baby curls and the vintage perfect double jelly roll on top of her head.  Crystal has dark brown solid glass eyes that are framed with hand rooted eyebrows, blonde upper and lower eyelashes.  Her finger and toe nail tips are appropriate for a baby her age, and have been  protectively sealed as well.
