1977 Vintage Rolex Air King Gold Shell Automatic Wind Watch
The look of a gold watch at a fraction of the price: This was the idea of the gold capped or gold shell watches made by Rolex. This layer of gold is thicker than a plated or filled watch as the gold was hammered thin and then wrapped around the stainless steel case. We love the look with the clean lines of the Air King and paired with a tan pebbled leather band that matches Hermes accessories perfectly: a great first (or second or third....) Rolex.
Movement: Swiss Rolex high grade 26 jewel 1520 movement is an automatic wind movement. It has been newly serviced by a master Rolex-trained watchmaker. It runs and keeps time in good order. This version is without a date.
Dial condition and detail: Lovely original dial is a brushed silver finish with gold markers. On close inspection, minor imperfections can be seen on the surface of the dial. This does not detract from the beauty of this lovely vintage piece. Pencil shaped hands in gold completes the look.
Case condition and detail: Very Good Rolex Case. Gold Shell case with a stainless steel back. A few surface scratches can be seen on close inspection. These are consistent with the age of a well-kept watch and does not detract from the look of this great classic. Stamped 5520 between the lugs at the 12'oclock position. Serial number begins with: 57691XX . Signed inside the caseback:Montres Rolex SA; Geneva; Switzerland; Patented; 1025.
Crystal/Glass condition: Plastic crystal in excellent condition.
Strap condition and detail: New strap of Tan Pebbled Leather will match your Hermes accessories perfectly. Handmade in Germany. Fitted with a generic gold tone buckle.
Size of watch: about 33mm in diameter not including lugs or crown.
Will fit wrist size: 6 3/4" to 8" in circumference.
