French Chassepot Model 1866 Saber Bayonet. This bayonet has a brass handle and a hooked quillion.
Bayonet Marked: W/French Symbols # H 20468
Scabbard Marked: #H 20468Blade has a 2 stamp on one side and two other stamps on other side, hard to make out, think one is a "B"
Also has markings on hook, can't make them out.
Looks like a 3 stamp on top of the guard
Blade has French etching on top of spine, hard to make out, I see "St. Etienne", can't read date
Blade length: 22 1/2"
Bayonet Condition: Fair Vintage. Has average wear for age with some oxidation. Tip of blade is dinged, see pics.
Scabbard Condition: Fair with much patina from storage. It fits the blade well.
This is an estate find in as found condition, I did no cleaning, what you see is what you get, As Q's if unsure.
