YOU ARE BEING OFFERED: a Verge Fusee pocket watch movement Quartier au Locle Swiss from 1810

We also have listed a running and cased watch by this same watch maker. This movement appears to have been for a European watch while the other listing was for a watch exported to England or North America.

DIAL: 42.5 mm +/-  Roman numerals with “Quartier au Locle”. Dial is in very fine condition but there is an edge chip and some hairline cracks, please see the photos. 

SERIAL NUMBER: NO SERIAL NUMBRE FOUND

CONDITION: the movement is in parts and is not working. Please review the photos as I am not sure if all parts are there.  

HISTORY: OLIVER QUARTIER (1776-1852) was among the more distinguished Swiss watchmakers of his day and typically signed his work. Pritchard (one of the most important references on Swiss Watches) has a whole page on Olivier Quartier. Quartier appears to have been in business for nearly 50 years and was a high quality prolific inventor, including a device for protecting workmen from mercury vapor. In 1825 he won a prize for a wheel gear cutting machine. In 1836 his firm won a prize for making balance springs. There are 53 Quartier movements in the NAWCC Arthur Collection and a watch in the NAWCC museum. Quartier has a watch at NY University and in the Chamberlain Collection, was a prize-winning maker: reference Baillie Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World vol 1 p. 261
