This is a very fine Hand woven flat pile French Aubusson needlepoint rug.

Rugs and tapestries were made famous during 14^th and 15^th century and were made in Aubusson, a small medieval town in France. The rugs have motifs in traditional design. During 1930s tapestry was made popular by artists such as Cocteau, Dufy, Dali, Braque, Calder and Picasso who were invited to Aubusson to express themselves through the medium of wool.
