The ABCs of Bee Culture A.I. Root review E.R.Root 67th Thousand 1899 RARE 2nd ed Medina OHIO.  Hardback book; 437 pages; A. I. Root Co.  Blind-stamped and gilt-decorated cloth covers.  There is no indication of which this edition is, but I believe this is a 2nd edition.  The 1st edition was printed in 1877, and no other editions are recorded until 1899.   There are no other dates on the title page.  The title page indicates "67th thousand", which I think refers to the number of copes printed before this one.  "A Cyclopedia of Everything Pertaining to the care of the Honey-Bee; Bees, Honey, Implements, Honey-Plants, etc.  Facts Gleaned from the Experience of Thousands of Bee-keepers All Over Our Land.  Afterward Verified by Practical Work in Our Own Apiary".  Inside the front cover are the following black and white ink engravings:  "The Home of the Honey-Bees in 1878", The Home of the Honey-Bees in 1884", "The Home of the Honey-Bees in 1887", The Home of the Honey-Bees in 1899", "General View of the Home of the Honey-Bees in 1899, Looking from the West and Overlooking the Apiary", "Home of the Honey-Bees in 1899, View from the Southeast Showing Wood-Working Shop in Left Foreground", "Part of The Home of the Honey-Bees in 1899, Looking from the South", "Part of the Lumberyards of the Home of the Honey-Bee in 1899"," Looking from the top of the Lumber-Shed", "Electrical Generating Plant of the Home of the Honey-Bees in 1899", and "View from the Corner of the Machine-Shop of the Home of the Honey-Bees".  These are a great look into the past.  These are not the only black and white engravings.  There are too many for me to count, ranging in size from 2-inchs by 2-inches to full page.  Also in the back of this book there are sections on "ABC Picture Gallery of Apiaries and Bee-Exhibits", "Glossary"  "Doolittle's Comments on the ABC book", Miller's Review and Comments on the ABC Book",  "An Answers to Questions from Beginners" Biographies of Noted Beekeepers", including a signed reproduction of Lorenzo Langstroth picture, "Description of the Engravings", and the "Index.  Condition of the book is what I would call mid-grade.  It is far from perfect, but it does not have a lot of major problems.  There is a 2 1/2-inch split in the cover top back side to spine.  The back cover is loosely attached with some paper tear along that margin.  Cover shows wear but nothing significant.  The first page inside cover is detached.  Inside pages are very nice.  I did not look at every page  However, the many pages I did look at are off-white with just a hint of browning at the edges.  No folds, no tears, no writing, nothing missing.  Book is complete.  The book measures approximately 5 1/2-inches x 10-inches.  I am retired and want to pass this along to someone who will appreciate it.  My family is not interested.  Contact me for additional information or scans.
