Bidding farewell to a trusted friend... Canon EF 100-400 is II telephoto zoom lens, BROKEN - FOR PARTS ONLY.  I slipped on the ice a few weeks back, and before I had time to think about it and protect it with my body, my camera slammed into the icy concrete. The front lens cap/filter ring cracked, allowing the first lens element to pop out onto the ground, resulting in some scratches on the edges (visible on the upper right of the lens in picture 3). The impact also cracked one of the inner lens elements, visible in picture 5. There is some scutting on the casing, both from this catastrophe and from general use over the past seven years. Autofocus still works (since none of the damage is in the center of the lens elements, it doesn't affect the focus), haven't really tested stabilization (often have it off, anyway, so not sure how to test that). Manual focus and zoom still work as smoothly as before.  Both the Canon authorized repair shop and my local repair shop quoted a price too high for my comfort to repair it, so I'm selling it here to take the sting out of the price of a newer Tamron lens. According to the repair shop, the lens requires a Ft-Group (part CY1-2839-000), a Filter ring/zoom ring YA2-3629-000, a name ring (YA2-3647-000), and an event rint (YA2-3631-000), plus cleaning of internals (there is some glass dust inside). Otherwise, no signs of fungus or other damage. Will ship lens with ring tripod mount (pictured), lens cap and end cap, plus lens hood and gray Canon carrying case (not pictured) Please note: This lens is BROKEN, selling for parts. Sold as is, no returns accepted. Shipping indicated is for continental US only; buyers outside this area should request a shipping quote before bidding, or I will assume you accept all additional shipping charges.
