The Australia Sovereign is a modern tribute to the original Type 1 reverse from 1855 designed by Leonard Charles Wyon, which features the St Edwards crown, a laurel wreath and the word AUSTRALIA.

Each coin is meticulously struck from 91.67% gold (22-carat) in proof quality.

The commemorative 2017 Australia Sovereign portrays the St Edwards crown, a laurel wreath and the word AUSTRALIA, each is a historic element of Leonard Charles Wyon’s original Type I reverse. The modern tribute also includes the inscriptions PERTH MINT and SOVEREIGN.

Each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2017 year-date on its obverse.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 1,000 of the Australia Sovereign 2017 Gold Proof Coin.

This coin comes with the original mint packaging and certificate of authenticity.
