One of our favourite bowls, we have used this bowl in an exhibition. This bowl is hand built by me using white St Thomas stoneware clay and twice fired. It has been illustrated by NZ artist Lucky Rutland with ravens. It has been glazed with verdi green stoneware glaze, a pool of glass has been added to the bottom. It is a good size bowl, the largest yarn bowl I currently make, it is shown here with a 100 gram ball of dk yarn. A very nice piece of pottery and art.

Key LYB design features:
- flat bottoms for stability
- heavier than a typical bowl
- notches in the rim for resting knitting needles so tips don't get damaged
- a slit for feeding yarn, no pointless holes in the bowl (any yarn user knows this is a daft idea).
I started the The London Yarn Bowl in 2014. I am an addicted knitter and part time potter. The yarn bowls I saw at fairs lacked a knitters touch and understanding. I made five bowls for friends and family, this led to requests from their friends and suggestions that I should sell them.
The LYB is now a friendly collective, I have joined forces with friend, artist and ceramicist Lucky Rutland, who is based at the Chocolate factory North London. Lucky brings spirituality, mystique and great fun to the project.
The LYB hopes to share creativity and the love of making useful, well made objects with discerning knitters and crocheters. People like us who get pleasure from craft.
Every LYB is handmade and hand decorated using stoneware, it is twice fired in an electric kiln.
In 3 years we have made about 100 bowls so we are not mass producing. Every bowl is truly unique. We are happy to take on commissions especially to illustrate bowls, please get in touch to organise this.
