1915 Star Medal Trio to a Sergeant from the 7th Battalion, the Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment who was killed in action on 1st July 1916 - the first day of the battle of the Somme.

The 1915 star and the Victory Medal are correctly named as follows

S/721 SJT C. ELSTON.  THE QUEEN'S R.

The War Medal is a re-named medal with private naming as follows:

S-721 SJT. C. ELSTON. THE QUEEN'S R.

Charles Elson (the medals and medal index card incorrectly give his name as Elston) came from Redhill in Surrey and lived in Horley in Surrey.

He is buried along with a number of his comrades at Danzig Alley Cemetery British Cemetery in Mametz.

He is also commemorated in the porch of St. John the Baptist Church in the Parish of Windlesham.

The medal index card and medal rolls confirm his death on 1st July 1916.

The battalion war diary gives detailed accounts of the attack by the battalion on the 1st July.

The medals are all in good condition with ribbons.
