Up for sale is what I believe to be a rare DC Superheroes "Batman: Heroes & Villains  Chess/Schach Set" made in 2000 by "a la carte company" for the German market.  Also, perhaps the UK.   I have seen one other like it that was just for the American market. It was sold as a "collectible". This was my son's set and he played with with it once and that was it.  Therefore, the condition of the board and each playing piece figurine is in excellent condition.  No wear on any piece and each piece retains its luster and bright colors.   The Playing Board is in excellent condition.  The box is in fair to good condition.  The box reflects 3 moves; but, is not in bad condition.  It has scuffs; but, retains its structural integrity. This set should be of interest to any serious DC collector.

The Playing Board is large at 16" x 16" (406.4 mm by 406.4 mm) and is a Black "Space and Stars" by a Grey Concrete Chess Board Pattern. The Board is in excellent condition with no cosmetic issues;  nor, flaws (both the playing side and backside).  The backside is a traditional game board "Black".  

Each playing piece figurine is extremely colorful and extremely detailed.  Each playing piece figurine measures 3 &1/2 inches tall (88.4 mm) with a base of 1& 1/2 inches wide (37.6 mm).  Each playing piece stands on an elevated pedestal and are very stable on the Board.

The most popular "Villains" are included; the Joker, the Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Clayface, Bane, Catwoman.  The "Heroes" include Batman and Robin, Batgirl, Nighthawk,Commissioner Gordon, and the Gotham Police Officers..    .

Again, inside is great - all figurines are in excellent condition (The Joker's Staff has a tendency to bend at the tail end on its own - a structural flaw of the piece),  The outside of the box is fair to good.  The 17 year old box still has its structural integrity; but, has scuffs with one short side having white streaking.
