The first arcade translation of Star Wars takes its action from the Death Star battle at the end of the film. As hero Luke Skywalker, you must fight off enemy TIE fighters in your X-wing before entering the Death Star's trench and eventually destroying the immense battle station. The game features vector-based graphics, as well as music, dialogue and sound effects from the movie.
At the beginning of the game, there are three difficulty levels to choose from: Easy, which starts you out at Wave 1 with no bonus points; Medium, at Wave 3 with 400,000 bonus points; and Hard, at Wave 5 with 800,000 bonus points. Wave 1 contains a space battle with TIE fighters and then proceeds directly to the trench, whereas subsequent waves add a tower level in between the two.
You start the game with six shields, one of which is lost each time you are hit by a fireball or run into an object such as a tower. Defend yourself by shooting TIE fighters, towers, or shots from either. Do you have what it takes to destroy the Death Star.
