Grading is done visually as well as listening to record. I try to grade as honestly & fairly as possible.
NEAR MINT (NM):
Vinyl - is near perfect – very likely not been played. At most, a light scuff on record, played without any noise or skips.
Sleeve - near perfect – no “ring wear” & the most minor defects.
MINT MINUS (M-):
Vinyl - plays with no skip of any kind. Can have very minor surface scuffs, not affecting the quality.
Sleeve - Minor ring wear, creases to the corners, but no splits in the seams.
VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+):
Vinyl - will show some signs of being played with surface noise & may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don’t affect the listening experience. Slight warps which do no affect sound.
Label – some ring wear or discoloration. Center hole has no obvious wear.
Sleeve – slight signs of wear, corners may be lightly bent, wear to the seams, but not tears or holes.
VERY GOOD (VG):
Vinyl – many defects found in VG+ record will be more pronounced. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages & during song’s intro & fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable. Light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
Label – may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached.
Sleeve - may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. There may be seam splitting, but not complete separation, & noticeable ring wear.
GOOD (G), GOOD PLUS (G+):
Vinyl – Well played and plays throughout without skipping. Will have significant surface noise (pops & clicks), scratches & visible groove wear.
Sleeve – May have seam splits, tape, writing, ring wear or other defects.
