Yamaha GRAND CONCERT GC-21 in almost mint condition

This Yamaha guitar made in Japan during the years 1984 -2001 is yet another great guitar introduced by Yamaha Corporation. It remains in almost mint condition. So is the condition of the hard foam case.

The only “serious cosmetic problem” on its body is very shallow and not very conspicuous string burn below the bridge.

The other detail that I would like to emphasize is its action. Currently it is 4.2 mm under E6 and 3.7 mm under E1. This is the lowest action that can be achieved on this guitar without sending the slotted part of the bridge. This guitar doesn’t have an over-bowed neck, lifted bridge, which in case of some used guitars are the reasons behind the action being too high. On this guitar the only reason for that is the slotted part of a bridge being too high. It most likely has been designed for a different guitar model. The slot, holding the saddle is 6 mm deep, while on most classical guitars the same slot is only 3-4mm deep. Sending it down by 2 mm will allow for lowering the action by 1 mm.

If you definitely like lower action and are unable to make such adjustment by yourself, this guitar is not the best choice for you.

I can do it at your request after the purchase, at no additional charge.

After this operation, the bridge will look like nothing ever happened to it.

To my ear this guitar sounds beautifully enough to call a great guitar, with much higher replacement value that its retail price at any given moment in time. It is obvious to me, that any individual description of guitar’s the sound quality can have a different meaning to different people. It really depends on what are the other guitars being compared with the one that we are trying to describe. Depending on personal taste and ear sensitivity, the term “beautiful sound” can be imagined quite various ways. The same applies to loudness of guitar. Certain guitar can be very loud to one person, who played in the past much quieter one, while to someone else will describe the same guitar as being too quiet.

For example, in not that very remote past, I have thought about many guitars as being very loud. But after experiencing Masaru Kohno guitars (also Hiroshi Tamura #10, Yamaha GC7S, Yamaha GC7M, Asturias Custom S, Aranjuez #6) all these other guitars are not very loud to me anymore, although they will be very loud to many other players.

Loudness of a guitar can’t be the only factor deciding about greatness of a guitar. There are guitars that are not very loud, but produce sound so charming, that the volume becomes irrelevant. This rule applies for example to all Hiroshi Tamura P series, Asturias, Arias, Yamahas and “El Vito” guitars no matter which model we choose.

The guitar, you are looking at right now is definitely great (to me).
