For
sale is this Purma
Special camera from the 1930's. Special it certainly is as it uses a
very ingenious gravity shutter system to control three shutter speeds.
The shutter speeds alter depending on how the camera is held. Hold the
camera vertically with the film advance knob down results in the slow
speed, vertically with the advance knob up is the fast speed and holding
the camera horizontally results in the medium speed. The three speeds
are 1/25sec (slow) 1/150sec (medium) and 1/450sec (fast). The
manufacturer recommended fast speed for bright sunlight, medium for
bright but not sunny and slow for overcast. The shutter basically uses a
weight and spring which opens a slit of 2mm, 3mm and 12.75mm in the
shutter blinds. To operate the shutter, a lever on the top front of the
camera needs to be primed and the shutter release button is on the left
side of the camera. The lens cap which screws into place pushes the
spring loaded lens in, locking the shutter release. The lens is a Beck
Anastigmat f6.3 63mm glass lens with a perspex view finder which was
very cutting edge in the 1930s. The entire camera body is Bakelite and
this camera is free of any chips or cracks which are often found on
Bakelite cameras. I have stripped and cleaned the shutter mechanism so
you'll receive a 100% fully working camera with
correct shutter speeds. You can use 127 roll film or you can re-spool
35mm film. Click here for an idea of what to expect with this great camera. I will leave the images to complete the description and welcome all questions.
All that remains is for me to thank you for your interest.
Please note: I come from a camera repair background so you are guaranteed a 100% hassle free working camera. Many cameras on ebay are listed as 'not used in a few years but should be working' or 'found in the attic so not sure if working' or 'working but not tested with film'. All of my cameras are tested for film wind on and rewind, correct shutter and aperture operation, counter, timer, flash operation, battery contacts and light seals to name a few. I spend time with each and every camera I list so that you're 100% happy when it arrives.
