Turkish Vintage Kilim

This lovely piece is a result of a meticulous hand work that creates a unique style.

It's a vintage kilim from Sivas of Turkey, central Anatolia.

It was hand woven in 1960s by a local family.

The traditional Turkish tribal and nomadic motifs are largely embroidered and this original kilim is now called cicim (Jihjihm). The material of this kilim is pure wool. Dyes are natural colors obtained from herbal sources.

A notable feature is the natural abrash flowing throughout. The hand spun wool and the natural dying

process creates uneven tones in the wool.

And also,the edges aren’t entirely even which is reinforcing the notion that something made by hand.

The condition of this vintage kilim is perfect because it was not used on the floor but on the wall. It's now ready to use for any purpose such as an area rug in the living room, dining room, bedroom or kitchen. For sure you can enjoy this unique piece on the wall as a decorative tapestry as well.
