  • An antique Secessionist Arts & Crafts c1900-10 tray by the Belgian Architect Gustave Serrurier-Bovy (1858-1910), who was considered to be the founder of the geometric school within the Art Nouveau movement. The design of the tray is representative of this school and is made out of copper and brass parts that are soldered and screwed together. Apparently, he was influenced by the Arts & Crafts movement, particularly by the woprk of William Morris during a visit to London in 1884. The galleries around the perimeter of the tray are like boat shaped handrails with square and obolong pierced decoration. The tray with shaped brass handles and feet measures just over 21 in (535 mm) x 10.4 in (265 mm) including the handles and is in very good condition with no damage. An example of this tray can be found in the Broham Museum in Berlin and none show any marks or signatures. The tray is in original uncleaned condition, as found with good colour and patina which includes some spots of oxidation and surface marks etc, commensurate with age and use. A stylish tray for someones collection, display etc....
