ROLEX VINTAGE PAUL NEWMAN DAYTONA 6240 CHRONOGRAPH STEEL 1967

Of all of the Daytona references, model 6240 is by far the the rarest and most collectable. Introducing the screw-down chronograph pushers, it was available in limited quantities in 1967 in tandem with the 6239/6241 pump-pusher models-both utilizing the Valjoux 722 movement.

This particular example is one of the very few known to feature the Mk1 Paul Newman dial. To our knowledge, 4 others have appeared on the market—all within the 1.6M serial number sequence and featuring the earliest known Paul Newman dial with ’swiss’ signature identified by the high peak at the center.

Original stainless steel case is 37mm diameter by 14mm thick, with black bezel with Units per Hour scale, domed plastic crystal, screw down crown and screw down chronograph pushers. Case is clean and mint. Serial number 1659XXX dates production to 1967. Inside case back is marked ‘6240’.

Original, untouched, clean and mint RARE Mark 1 high Swiss-Alps “T SWISS T” black three color Paul Newman dial. The absence of the word ‘OYSTER’ is consistent with both 1967 and normal non-PN dials for this reference. This can be considered the earliest—or first generation screw-down Paul Newman (or “Exotic”) dial models.

Original manual winding Rolex Caliber 722-1 with 17 jewels and adjusted in three positions, with column wheel construction, pristine and running well.

Rolex 271 folded link Oyster bracelet.
