Here is an antique Taylor Taylor Hobson Cooke 5x8 Series III 8 1/2" large format lens. The glass is clean and clear. The shutter is a Volute shutter but the shutter is missing alot of parts and is not operable. The diaphragm does open and close when you rotate the dial. One could still use the lens if you had a shutter behind the lens such as a Packard shutter. The lens is the triplet design with a central element. It does not have a flange.
