A 16.5cm ƒ2.8 Carl Zeiss Jena BioTessar in excellent condition for its age (s/n 957448, 1930). What is most remarkable is that it has been anti-reflection coated.  Mounted in a Compound 4 shutter, with a flange (outer Ø 102mm, inner Ø 75mm).

The ƒ2.8 BioTessar was designed by Zeiss Jena ca. 1930 to compete with the fast optics from Taylor-Hobson Cooke, Dallmeyer, and Ross London to be shot wide open in hand-held reflex cameras of the day (e.g. Marion Soho and Graflex SLRs).  To achieve resolution and contrast over the full field, Zeiss turned the singlet in the front element of the Tessar into a cemented doublet and the rear doublet into a cemented triplet (see the last image in the gallery for the layout from "Eagle Eye of Your Camera", Zeiss Objectives 1933, p. 21).

Don't let my details in the "Condition" section scare you off as this lens is in excellent condition and none of what I see with close examination are going to impact any photograph.  When I bought the lens the condition given was "glass is clear", which I knew to be incomplete and not descriptive for a lens that is 86 years old.  The signature of the Biotessar, a triplet design, is unique and will make unique photographs, especially portraits.

Why am I selling this beauty?  I am moving and, since I never got 'round to using it, it falls in the category of too may lenses, too little shelf space.  No time for "Shelf Queens"!

The 16.5 Zeiss Biotessar is boxed and ready to go — my goal is to ship no later than the day after receipt of payment.  It will be shipped insured for the purchase price by USPS Priority Mail.  Direct shipment to Canada, Western Europe, Japan, China, Asia, and Australia with insurance by USPS Priority International (buyer responsible for any import fees).  Other international shipping by eBay Global.
