Stamped ' Snell & Atherton Brockton Mass. '

Varanus Snell (1823-1913) was a tool maker. In 1853 he partnered with Lemuel Atherton to form Snell & Atherton.
In 1860 Lemuel Atherton died and his son Henry became partner.
Snell retired in 1906 and passed the business to his son-in-law Fred H Packard.
In 1907 the business name changed to Snell & Atherton Inc.

A very scarce tool by a collectable maker better known for their patented shaves

Used for measuring the thickness of leather - 1 iron = 1/48"
The scale goes from 3 to 14

Generally used in the shoe industry to measure the thickness of sole leather

Approximately 112mm in length

Clean - No  rust or grease
