DESCRIPTION: Nice condition vintage "Astronar" 400mm f7.5 telephoto lens in fixed metal Exacta/Exakta/Topcon manual focus mount with generic rear cap as shown, in original box. Takes 55mm filters, has an odd 54.5mm adapter screwed onto the filter threads. Made in the USA in the 1950s is our best guess.

Has no diaphram so you work at f7.5. Focus is the entire barrel moving in and out of the mount cell.

In much better condition than these usually are, the glass is very clear, the focus (which is usually very lumpy and crude) is better than average though still a bit agricultural. The photo of the blue pitcher on our back porch rail is taken through this lens with a Panasonic G3, completely uncropped and untouched from the original file.

Note the near focus is VERY far away, like 30 feet or some such. A short extension tube might make for some interesting closer shooting but of course you would loose infinity focus.

Cosmetically again better than average, in fact we have not seen one with this black crackle finish nor one in this nice of condition.   

NOTE: Photographs of the glass surfaces of camera lenses are meaningless. Nothing other than a gross defect can be accurately described by or inferred from them. Artifacts of the photographic process (reflections, lighting up the interior of the lens in an unusual way) can make a good lens look bad and vice versa. In our case the description and our feedback is what you want to pay attention to.
