Here's an amazing treasure from my latest jewelry buying expedition.  It is an example of a family of Victorian jewelry that incorporates a mother bird watching over her little egg.   The elements of the design will be familiar to all collectors of this jewelry.  Usually, the mother bird is presented in a woodland setting, patiently watching over her pearl egg.  The earrings are usually quite large and consequently heavy.  This version is much more earlobe-friendly!  It is made of solid 14 karat yellow gold (marked and tested).  With the passage of time, the yellow gold has acquired a patina which makes it appear almost rose in color.  I have left the patina on the earrings.  The earrings appear darker under normal light, the studio lights bring out more color than does regular daylight.  The silver mother bird is shown watching over a nest that she has hidden behind a bright rose gold flower with a turquoise center.   She has a bright cornelian eye, the better to watch over the egg, and a small pale turquoise colored bead along the wings.  A pair of handmade gold leaves shelters the scene.  A trio of drop dangles completes the design.  These are truly amazing earrings, an absolute work of art.  With a weight of only 4.9 grams for the pair, you will turn to them often.  The earrings measure 1 5/16 inches tall by 1/2 of an inch across.  A remarkable estate pair in excellent condition, it would make a spectacular gift for a special day.   It will come in a sparkly bag in one of my signature jewelry boxes, perfect for gift-giving.
