First of all, these paintings are mostly between 100 and 300 years old.
They have come directly or indirectly from the walls of Old English Country Houses and Stately Homes and even Castles.
I describe their condition honestly and mention all defects in the paintings and the frames. I use the same terms of description as used by the top 3 auction houses.

If you want something that looks new and in a perfect new frame there are plenty of reproduction paintings on ebay in brand new frames so I suggest this will be more suitable for you.
Should you have a deep pocket, I suggest that you buy at a leading Art Gallery and pay retail price for a fully restored painting costing many TENS OF THOUSANDS of £££’s or $$$’s
What I offer are once in a lifetime buying opportunities.
Within a few years from now there will be fewer old paintings available.

In our opinion a work executed in the style of the named artist.

In our opinion a work in the style of the named artist but of a later date.
“School of…” accompanied by a place name and/or country and/or date
In our opinion a work executed at the location and in the period specified, e.g. 19thC English School.

In our opinion a copy of any date after a work by the named artist.

IMPORTANT TIPS WHEN ASSESSING PAINTINGS.
Having been in this business for 50 years I know how important it is to study the back of a painting as well as the front.
This is why WE ALWAYS show good clear images of the FULL REVERSE of our paintings.
If a seller does not show the whole reverse of a painting it is because they do not want you to see it.
Much can be read into the back as to the age of the canvas or wood panel.
N.B. I would never buy a painting unless I have seen good clear images of the entire back of the picture.
Also watch out for inaccurate dating of paintings which can quite often be wrongly dated by 2,3,4 CENTURIES.
This is very common on Ebay even with some of the larger "Gallery" sellers
Quite recently I noticed a "16th Century" painting sold by one of the large "Art Gallery" sellers for many thousands of pounds that in my opinion was less than 100 years old.
Another example of grossly inaccurate description / dating of a painting was very recently.
Again, one of the largest "Gallery" sellers offered a large oil on panel as 17th Century
It looked like an ancient painting on panel.
They sold it on Ebay for over $13000 USD
The same painting was recently purchased at a leading UK auction house for around £1600
Where it was catalogued as "20th Century".
This means that although the painting looked very old, it was
created in the 20th century and therefore made/created with the intention to deceive
A fake,
But correctly described by one of the leading UK auction houses as 20th Century.
I wonder what price it would have reached on Ebay if it had been described as 20th C?

Also check if the painting is a modern Chinese factory produced acrylic work done on plywood.
There are many of these new Chinese Paintings being offered on eBay, even by some of the larger "Gallery" sellers.
I find it amazing that some of these painting have sold on Ebay lately for well over £1000-£2000
One sold a few weeks ago for almost £8000 cost in the UK from wholesaler's warehouse around £400 !!!!
Most can be bought in the UK for around £100-£200
They have factory "stock" signatures such as;
George Webster and J Webb for flower paintings or James Hardy for Maritime subjects.
They use many other spurious but interesting sounding names
