"Colours of Caithness" yarns were spun and dyed as a special commission (so they will never be repeated), using only the finest British wool and natural fibres (This yarn does have the addition of a soft, woolly-nylon binder thread). The colours are a reflection of our beautiful natural Scottish landscape.

  • This unique shade is the most delicate blend of subtle weathered brown and tiny hints of blue and orange, with added creamy white, silk neps, to form a beautiful textured, tweed yarn. It was inspired by some washed-up debris on one of our beautiful, unspoilt, Scotland's beaches.
This is one of those colours that looks different in every lighting situation. Sometimes it looks more towards silvery greyish white and other times it looks more towards whitish silver grey. Think supermarket mushrooms. Please be aware that everyone's brain sees/perceives colours differently!
  • 80% British new lambswool, 15% silk, 5% nylon (binder thread).
  • I would say that this wool is soft enough for most people to wear next to the skin.
  • As with most good quality yarns, this wool will soften and fluff up a little, after you first wash your finished item. It is very soft and quite breaky, so it would not be suitable for anything requiring durability.
  • The natural, insulating, pure wool fibres keep in warmth but allows your body to breathe at the same time. It knits the ultimate warm accessories, amongst many other items of woolly gorgeousness.
  • Knit it loosely for bulk and warmth or knit tightly to keep out the wind.
  • I am only selling this yarn as I had more than I needed for my own projects.
  • Everyone's tension/gauge is different, but I knit this yarn on 3.00mm needles (USA 3) and get 28 stitches and 36 rows to a 4" (10cm) square. I would advise making and washing a swatch, so you can judge the tension, texture and softness, in accordance wit your own taste.
  • Singles yarn on a binder thread. Knits as light 4ply / fingering weight.
  • This listing is for 50g of yarn. Multiple purchases will be supplied all from the same dye lot.
  • Approximate length per 50g = 230 yards (approx. 215m).
  • Despatch will be the next working day after receipt of payment (sometimes the same day that payment is received).
  • I have accurately matched the colour on my screen, but please be aware that all computer screens are different, so there may be a colour variation at your end.
